Beautystat.com: AVIVA Hair Revitalizer Advanced Growth System

Beauty Stat

It’s wash day Naturalistas! It’s a long production to get this hair post out  but I’m using today to detangle my wash n go curls to show my full hair length as I try a new hair supplement. It isn’t always easy to grow longer hair faster BUT it is easy to take the right supplements and eat the right foods to help take care of your hair! Growing kinky, curlier more dense hair-is a little trickier;as dryness and poor products can damage hair.

A few things I’d like to add: I juggle between flat-ironing and wearing my hair in its natural state a few times a month. It’s challenging to regulate the level of heat my hair can tolerate even with a VERY good quality ceramic iron.

You’ll notice on the left side of my head; my hair is limp and straight. The other side is tight and actually quite curly…..this is the downside to using high heat and heat frequently. In the past, I would’ve shaved my head and started again…but this blown out hair has taken me 2 years to grow out! I’ll use AVIVA to assist! lol

I’ve got about 2-3 inches of new growth on the straight side and would like to cut/taper the side and let it grow during the summer 😀 (New look!) When I do taper it….I’ll monitor the Hair Revitalizer’s efficacy!

I’ve started using AVIVA Hair Revitalizer Advanced Growth System capsules for the last 4 days and there aren’t any noticeable differences…. yet. I did notice quite a few strands in my hair brush today and yesterday. Overall I’ve got a lot of hair but it isn’t thin. My hair strands are VERY THICK. My hair is between 4a/4b for those of who understand Afro hair.

One thing I have noticed while taking supplements such as MSM, Silica, Biotin, B-complex-they all maintain my hair strand density. Naturally, I have 0 breakage and tons of split ends and ‘fairy knots’. I’m trying to get better at getting more frequent trims. (I promise Adrian!) With proper eating and supplements my hair gets bigger, wider and looks heavier so it takes a while to see visible length.

Blow dried and curls combed out!

I’ve decided to take photos of my hair in its wash n go state and it’s blown out or combed out state (no curls) to accurately measure the supplement’s progress.

AVIVA promises to ‘enhance and enrich for stronger, thicker and beautiful looking hair….the secret is their ‘100 drug-free, extra strength dual complex of PENTPLEX HGF and TETRA HHL’ (concoction of more potent herbs)…….beneficial ingredients include Vitamin B5, Folic Acid, Vitamin H (Biotin) 5000mcg (I’ve never taken this much Biotin at once), Silica, Iron, Zinc and Iodine — all DRUG-FREE, all-natural, fish-free ingredients to help stabilize strong and healthy hair. Along with AVIVA I also use ACES….it helps my skin and my hair! I look forward to the summer heat when both supplements will work well.

ACES and AVIVA

What interested me the most was the formulations AVIVA created for this supplement! He Shou We (Fo Ti), Ashwagandha, MSM, Long Pepper Extract, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Saw Palmetto Berry Oil, Silica——–that’s a lot of herbs in just one capsule! I take some of these separately sooooo to see them all in one capsule saves time and almost functions for me as a multi-vitamin.

I started breaking out after two days of usage which is a sign that the capsules ARE working-however, I had to increase my water intake to 10-12 large glasses of water a day instead of 8 to filter out the excess in my system and because I work out! I believe the Biotin and MSM component is the pimple culprit!

I’ll go into specifics for my next update about what I use. I have an arsenal of products that I use (not all at the same time!)

  • Joico Smooth Cure Sulphate-Free Shampoo for curly/frizzy/coarse hair (no bubbles, its great!)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (gets rid of product build up/diluted with tons of water)
  • Arm and Hammer Baking Soda (diluted with tons of water)
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil
  • Dabur Amla Hair Oil
  • Organic Root Stimulator Nourishing Sheen Spray (lasts a year or more)
  • Hemp Hand Oil (The Body Shop) —- I use it on my scalp
  • Aussie Moist Revitalizing Conditioner (amazing)

The Body Shop Canada – Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub

Tea Tree Scrub

Just in time for warmer weather to help shed dead, dull skin and not only on the face! Body Shop’s SQUEAKY CLEAN SCRUB is a new addition to the longstanding pore-removing tea-tree line. This scrub has replaced what they used to have (BLACKHEAD EXFOLIATING WASH) which was thicker with coarser grains made of apricot pits; which is much too harsh for the face.

It’s got a very fresh scent (tea tree oil, lemon extract, peppermint oil) and washes very clean! The tea-tree oil is Community Fair Trade Oil from Kenya and stem-distilled to pull out the oil used in all the tea-tree oil based products!

The East Coast dry winter weather made my combination oily skin oilier on top and reactive beneath the top layer. I broke out constantly this season. This wonderful clear scrub is great at removing dead skin cells and penetrating large and constricted  pores to minimize potential and existing breakouts.

I’ve used it now for about 6 weeks and I’m seeing clarity I haven’t seen in a few months. I alternate with OBAGI foaming cleanser and really concentrate mostly on my acne-prone areas (cheeks and chin). The granules in this scrub can withstand tons of water and really helps to buff the skin.

Many skin care brands are found to produce face and body-scrub products with man-made materials, detrimental to our water ways and wildlife (fish, birds). It is wonderful to see and feel that The Body Shop has made a scrub in which the beads melt as the product foams.(No synthetic granules)

I believe this new squeaky-clean scrub is an incredible upgrade because of it’s clear consistency. The previous formula was pasty and could still cause breakouts with combination/ reactive skin.

scrub on hand

It lathers quickly and  remains lathered for a long time! Not much is required unless you need to scrub your neck! This scrub is so good it can be used all over the body including any acne-prone or sweat zone areas on the body! It is great for the back and shoulders after a workout or when summer arrives!

It’s main ingredient (Melaleuca) is great for keeping intimate areas clean after waxing and shaving. Great for bikini lines and underarms and to prevent ingrown hair!

If you like clean, fresh smelling products this is for you! If you love tea-tree oil, this will be a hit. Don’t worry it’s not only for ‘blemished skin’.

Chakras to Shock Ya…..!

Owner, Crystal Visions- Crystal Stokes
Owner, Crystal Visions- Crystal Stokes

What IF someone could tell you about your future…..or read you tarot cards that could give you advice about ‘what to do’? What if someone could ‘cast a spell’?In modern society all these remedies, answers and problem-solvers may seem like a quick solution……but truly understanding your self through study of the body/mind/spiritual soul connection is priceless! Navigating those parts of yourself with an awesome ‘Life Coach‘ who can show you how….is ideal-if you want….

Crystal Stokes owner and healer of Crystal Visions in (Kensington Market) has a very different concept of what ‘holistic’ means….I was introduced to Ms.Stokes a few years ago and I previously had a huge understanding of ‘holistic health‘. She showed me all types of things about holistic health that bolstered the nutritional concepts with the spiritual practices. What Stokes does is combine all disciplines together to offer multi dimensional services so it’s not a basic pay-for-service ‘tarot card reading’ experience.

How does she do it? Everything is connected right? In the physical and spiritual realm too? Holistic Practitioner and Psychic Crystal Stokes can show you all of that.

She uses readings and texts i.e.(The Artist’s Way-Julia Cameron, The Four AgreementsDon Miguel Ruiz, The Secret- Rhonda Byrne, Good, Better, Blessed-Joel Osten) that have very specific concepts to zero in on what one needs to learn. For faith-based clients she recommends holy texts(Bible, Koran, Torah) containing lessons and knowledge to widen one’s focus…..If there isn’t an underlying ‘faith’ she chooses what is best fit for the situation…something to assist your meditation. She teaches you to meditate. To focus on the issue/s or energy at hand and see beyond the surface.

When we hear the term holistic-we think of green tea, yoga, meditation wheatgrass juice and maybe-cleansing? For people not readily inclined to understand or follow these personal pursuits; it may seem confusing or redundant but she’s not there to force ideas-she’s showing you what you need to see.

Crystal is a psychic healer. Seven generations in. She began reading cards at 10 yrs old and would help people with real life problems at an early age. She says ‘at a young age, I wouldn’t really react about a death in the family the way most family members did-I already somehow understood where people were when they passed-it took until my late teens to understand how the spiritual part of things worked’.

As a teenager she started studying meditation, yoga, holistic healing, auras (chakras), colour therapy, aromatherapy and nutrition where she brought the mind and body connection together. When I first walked in there a few years ago I was a little weary….I pictured something out of Harry Potter with bats, owls and magic wands…it was so far from that! What you will find is a peaceful space (and Enya playing in the background) with precious stones, incense, essential oil, posters of chakras and various figures and photos of symbols from religions all over the world! About religious belief she says ‘I was raised Christian only to find out that even though I studied the Bible for personal clarity-I started reading everything to help all kinds of people to understand what I wanted them to learn-we are all the same….we are HUMAN’.

In the lounge

She encounters all types of issues on a regular basis:

  • The inability to identify character (friendship, relationships, business, life)
  • Stagnancy (environmental or in daily life) (lack of motivation, procrastination)
  • The search for your life’s (self) purpose
  • Difficulties achieving goals, students (Fear of failure)
  • Habits – Breaking those habits (Anything)
  • Achieving a peace of mind (busy people, career people)

And of course the most popular topics involve matters of the heart! She’ll talk to you about ANYTHING! I asked her why she felt it necessary to help people this way…she says ‘In my great grandmother’s day women were often persecuted for what they knew about the spiritual world and how to help people…..there weren’t doctors to fix things the way we do today-in the modern world you can’t always give a pill to fix something to change with one’s mind….sometimes clarity is achieved through study and understanding of the body, mind and soul, this is what I’m here for’. 10 Products I <3: The Body Shop – Cucumber Cleansing Milk

For the past 10 years I’ve been following the Ayurvedic way of life. I’ll get a little more into the topic of  Ayurveda later but I follow my eating, sleeping and exercise habits a certain way.  Thanks to a book that I was introduced to by a friend,  I ‘ve lent and purchased copies of  Absolute Beauty by Pratima Raichur on www.pratimaskincare.com (I’m in need of a new copy now) 😀

Ayurveda has ways that the skin is treated with natural ingredients while tackling some specific and difficult skin issues. I don’t have as much time to mix herbs and oils like I did when I started years ago so I started looking for ingredients that are acceptable by Ayurvedic standards for my skin type and body constitution. I found a gem in The Body Shop‘s Cucumber Cleansing Milk.

2014 Update: The Body Shop has since discontinued this product.! In it’s place I started buying Aloe Calming Facial Cleanser. It’s got the same creamy consistency and still does an amazing job! It calms down overactive or sensitive skin!

The Body Shop has many products which I discovered that have oils used throughout the Ayurvedic skin care regime i.e. sesame oil, brazil nut oil, almond oil, babassu oil.  Cucumber Cleansing Milk contains organic community trade soy oil from Brazil! Soy oil is a dry oil that can moisturize dry and combination/oily skin effectively. Soy is a highly popular staple in Asia (Japan) which is where I started using soy more frequently 😀  Soy oil contains linoleic fatty acids that is easily absorbed into the skin and body to grow healthy cells. Soy oil is also anti-inflammatory.

I noticed after weeks of using the milk my occasional breakouts ceased and any facial cleanser that I used which would normally be irritating; completely stopped burning. Massaging the milk in the skin enables it to act as a barrier from harsh water, cleanser and environment.  The cucumber, soy and glycerin combination work well to help calm, soothe and tone most skin types including skin with rosacea and acne. The milk rinses clean so there is no need to worry about a greasy residue. Soy oil helps the skin combat the effects of free radicals and pollutants in the water and air.

There are so many things about the cleansing milk I can say but I’ll just get into how it is used for optimal results. In Ayurveda skin is massaged and treated before it is cleansed. Reactive or combination skin should be treated with an initial “facial massage”. Dry skin types can use the oil/cream as the cleanser itself. Once the milk is applied to the skin, make-up, dirt and sweat is massaged off .

The skin is rinsed a few times and if needed milk is re-applied a few times. No need to worry it’s not going to clog pores, you’ll be following with cleanser. You’ll notice a clearer, smoother, less irritated and balanced skin!
